Energy derived from oil, coal or nuclear power is getting day by day more difficult to access because of the rising prices, pollution of the environment, health risks and availability. With the increasing supports from the governments the renewable energies - Bio energy - become more attractive. With wind, sun power and biomass it is possible to produce cheap, environmental friendly energy which has endless resources and is available for even isolated areas. MENA Water offers you solutions for an independent energy supply with wind turbines, solar panels and biogas plants.
One main target is to make money with the biogas plant. There are possibilities.
Income with electricity: Biogas plants produce
electricity with the
cogeneration set
which consists of a
gas engine and a
generator. The
engine runs with the
biogas and drives
the generator. One
small part of this
electricity is used for
the demand of the
plant itself, for agitators,
pumps, blowers,
etc. The rest of the electricity can be sold and
comes into the public grid. Prices for electricity are rising and the source of mineral oil is limited.
For instance: With one ton of sewage sludge from
a waste water treatment with a dry matter of 12%
the biogas plant can produce 170 kWh el.
Income with heat: The gas engine also produces
heat. One part of the heat is necessary for the
digester. The rest can be used for green houses,
or you can produce steam. Using a adsorption
machine you also can cool by using the heat.

Income with disposing waste: Companies pay money to get rid of organic waste, which can be put into biogas plants. Some of those wastes need a pre-treatment before they are put into a digester, for in-stance sorting, crushing.
Income with fertilizer production: The effluent of the biogas plant, the digestate, is better than mineral fertilizer. It contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and many other nutrients for plants.
Digested substrates have a lot of advantages compared to untreated ones, these are:
Nutrients: In the digestate most of the nutrients are mineralised, this means, the roots of the plants can take them immediately. A lot of mineral fertilizer can be substituted this way.
Dry substance: A part of the dry substance gets eaten by the bacteria. The digestate is easier to handle this way and it flows quicker from the plants to the ground.
Odours: Chemical compounds, which cause odours are also decomposed by the micro organisms. The digestate does not smell that strong anymore, which is a big advantage.
Hygiene: Seed from herbs do not grow anymore after the digestion in a biogas plant. Eggs of flies and parasites as well as a lot of pathogen bacteria and viruses do not survive in the digester of a biogas plant.
